He uses 1970 as a benchmark, but my original article on fastest intensifying cyclones in the Atlantic puts Ida at the following:

  • 12 Hours – tied for 3rd with Marco – coincidentally while Marco is the smallest storm on record, Ida is not too much larger (about 60 miles);
  • 24 Hours – tied with Hurricanes Martha, Holly and Kate (8, 9, and 10, respectively);
  • 36 Hours – obviously due to landfall, Ida will not be making this list.
